Deimel Named AMCC Player of the Week Ryan Deimel, a junior from Erie, Pa. (Cathedral Prep H.S.) was named this week's AMCC tennis player of the week. Deimel was 14-4 overall this season, and 4-1 in the AMCC at first-singles. This past weekend during the AMCC Championships, Deimel battled it out during the finals of the first-singles flight. In the championship match Deimel faced off with Justin Stephens from Frostburg State. After being defeated in the first set 5-7, Deimel found himself down 2-5 in set two. Stephens had three match points, but could not close the door on Deimel. The match eventually went in to a tiebreaker, which Deimel took 7-4, giving him the set 7-6. Deimel went on to beat Stephens in the third and final set, 6-2. Deimel's first place win allowed Penn State Behrend to become the 2004 AMCC Champions, edging out Frostburg State by one point. Deimel also performed well in doubles. He and partner John Marini took the runner-up spot in the first doubles category. |
