Seven Behrend Records Broken at Mount Union Invitational

It was a record-breaking weekend at Mount Union for the Behrend Lions men's and women's track and field teams. Three men's and four women's records were broken.

Isiah Meek (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) set a new mark in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.78. The men's 4x160-meter relay team of Francis Kargbo (Fairfax, VA/J.W. Robinson), Isiah Meek, Shane Rock (McKean/General McLane), and Dennis Scheuer (McKean/General McLane) set a new time of 1:16.12. Also on the men's side junior runner Harry Balwick, Jr. (Erie/McDowell) clinched a new record in the mile run with a time of 4:38.90.

Junior athlete Staci Banaszek (Erie/Harborcreek) set two new records in the high jump and triple jump with marks of 5'1.75" and 36'4.5". The women's 4x800-meter team of Leslie Gentile (Corry/Corry), Nicole Mineweaser (Warren/Warren), Claire Manelick (Youngsville/Youngsville), and Leisl Soergel also set a new record with a time of 10:02.05. Wrapping up the record-breakers were the women's 4x160-meter team. Becky Gonzalez (Morrisville/Piscataway), Erica Smith (Polk/Franklin), Nicole Mineweaser, and Staci Banaszek made up the foursome who set the new record at 1:29.20.

Next up for the Behrend Lions is the ECAC Championships at St. Lawrence University on March 4 and 5. The blue and white have qualified a record 14 athletes for this event.
