Track and Field Teams Compete at Western PA Championships
The Penn State Behrend men's and women's track and field teams were in action this weekend at the Western PA Championships at Carnegie Mellon University. Fifteen men's teams and fourteen women's teams from Divisions I, II, and III competed in the meet.
Isiah Meek (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) bettered his original ECAC qualifying time, posting a mark of 15.09 in the 110-meter hurdles. Shane Rock (McKean/General McLane) qualified for the ECAC Championships in the triple jump with a distance of 43'6". Both Meek and Rock took second place overall.
Two new Behrend records were set at the meet. Erica Smith (Polk/Franklin) broke the 400-meter hurdles record with a time of 69.67 while Becky Gonzalez (Morrisville/Piscataway) set a new record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.48.
The track and field teams are next in action on April 9 at the Mount Union Invitational. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m. with the running events slated to start at 11:45 a.m.
