Track and Field Prepares for ECACs at Ursinus

Track and field travels to Ursinus College Friday, March 3 for the ECAC Championships.  Coach Dave Cooper will be bringing five athletes to compete in the indoor meet.

Senior captain Staci Banaszek (Erie/Harborcreek) will lead the Behrend team at the championships, she has qualified in the high, triple, and long jumps.  Banaszek had a dream performance back in the end of January at Slippery Rock when she set two new school records and qualified for ECACs in three events in one day.    Banaszek cleared 5' 5" in the high jump, leapt 16' 11" in the long jump, then closed out the day with a 35' 9.25" leap in the triple jump.

Qualifiers for the men include, Jon McKinney (Summerville/Union) who leapt 42' 10.5" in the triple jump and Shane Rock (McKean/General McLane)  who also qualified in the triple jump, leaping 43' 8.5".  Other qualifiers on the women's side include Kim Chapman (Cranberry Township/Seneca Valley) and Leisl Soergel (Evans City/Butler), who both qualified in the last event of the season in the 500-meter dash.  Soergel qualified with a dash of 1:22.98 and Chapman was right behind her at 1:23.01.

The event will carry through March 3 and 4 and will mark the end of the indoor track season.  Sunday, March 5 track and field travels to the Disney Relays in Orlando, Florida.  The Relays will mark the beginning of the outdoor track season.
