Five Behrend Lions Qualify for ECACs During SRU Inivitational

Track and Field competed at the Slippery Rock Invitational on Saturday, April 15 and saw five more Behrend Lions qualify for the ECAC championships.

For the women, freshman hurdler, Kim Chapman (Cranberry Township/Seneca Valley) qualified with a time of 16.33 in the 100m hurdles.  Qualifying along with Chapman were freshman Lauren Kremm (Greenville/Greenville) running a 12.67 in the 100m dash and senior Staci Banaszek (Erie/Harborcreek), soaring 35’ 5.5” in the triple jump. 

On the men’s side there were two ECAC qualifiers in the triple jump, junior Jon McKinney (Summerville/Union) with a distance of 44’ 6” and senior Shane Rock (McKean/General McLane) who landed a 44’ 0.75” jump. 
  

The blue and white had several other highlights from the 28 team event as they competed against Division I, II, and III programs.  Leading the pack of other notable performances for the women was freshmen Jenny Bailey (Corry/Corry) with a time of 11:11.16 and a second place finish in the 3000m run.  In the same event, freshmen Colleen White (Erie/Central) placed tenth with a time of 12:23.61 and freshman Sarah Patterson (Erie/McDowell) ran a 12:27.05 to finish twelfth.  Sophomore Leisl Soergel (Evans City/Butler) darted through the 800m run with a time of 2:24.45, securing third place.

Brad Ruffo (West Middlesex/West Middlesex) earned a second place finish in the 5000m run as the junior finished with a time of 16:14.14.  Senior Harry Balwick (Erie/McDowell) also ran strong for the men with his eighth place finish in the 1500 meter run, speeding across the finish line at 4:15.52.

Next up for the Behrend Lions track and field team will be the IUP Invitational held this Saturday on April 22.
