Behrend Battles Tough Competition and Mother
Nature at IUP Kim Chapman (Cranberry Township/Seneca Valley) finished first for the women, running the 400 meter hurdles in 1:07.10. Chapman will be among the Behrend athletes in mid May at the ECACs. New ECAC qualifiers for the women included Lauren Kremm (Greenville/Greenville) who completed a 16' 6.50" leap in the long jump. Also on their way will be the women's 4x400 meter relay team of Kremm, Chapman, Leisl Soergel (Evans City/Butler), and Jaylan Giuliano (Harmony/Seneca Valley). For the men, junior Jon McKinney (Summerville/Union) had an ECAC qualifying triple jump of 43' 3.50". McKinney finished second in the event. Javelin star Dan Mitchell (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) came in third on Saturday, after a toss of 193' 6.0". Mitchell has already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Nationals at season's end. To date, the Behrend women have qualified a total of six athletes for the ECACs, while the men have added four more. Behrend track will be in action again on Friday, May 5, when they will travel to Newport News, Virginia for a weekend long tournament at Christopher Newport University.
