Mitchell Places Ninth at 2006 NCAA Track & Field Championships

On Saturday, May 27, Behrend Lions junior Dan Mitchell (Bloomsburg/
Bloomsburg) made his season best javelin throw at the right time at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships and placed ninth overall.

Mitchell's throw measured 194' 6" at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.  His ninth place finish is the highest ever finish for a Penn State Behrend men's athlete at the NCAA Track & Field Championships. The finish tied teammate Staci Banaszek's ninth place finish from the previous day in the high jump.

Mitchell previously competed in the NCAA Championships in 2004, when he finished in 15th place.  He qualified for the 2006 Championships with a mark of  193' 6" at the Mount Union Invitational on April 8.
