Behrend Track and Field Sets Three School
Records, Qualifies Two More for ECAC Championships Next Weekend Senior team captain Jon McKinney (Summerville/Union) starred on the men's side, winning the triple jump event with an ECAC qualifying distance of 43' 9.5". McKinney also grabbed a third place finish in the long jump with a leap of 19' 11.0". Both Rob Shrawder (New Wilmington/West Middlesex) and Kenji Ikeo (Osaka, Japan/Canadian Academy) finished second in their respective events. Shrawder ran the 800 meter run in 2:05.04 while Ikeo ran the 500 meter in 1:10.54. The two also joined Jordan Telin (North Huntingdon/Norwin), and Matt Cherpak (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) to win the 4x400 meter relay event with a time of 3:43.04. The 4x1600 meter relay team, consisting of Doug Stevenson (Sharpsville/Sharpsville), Phil Stuczyski (Girard/Girard), Vinnie Krawiec (Erie/McDowell), and Mike Ferraro (Erie/Harborcreek), set a new school record when they completed the relay in 1:16.05. On the women's side it was Virginia Rodgers-Owens (Washington D.C./P.L. Dunbar) and Kim Chapman (Cranberry Township/Seneca Valley) who had big days. Rodgers-Ownes qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 55 meter dash when she broke the Behrend record with a time of 7.53 seconds. Chapman broke a school record in the 400 meter dash with a 1:02.03 second place finish. Chapman will join Mckinney and Rodgers-Owens at the ECACs next weekend after qualifying earlier this season in the 500 meter run. Distance specialist Jenny Bailey (Corry/Corry) took runner-up in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:12.42. The ECACs are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2. The event will continue at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
