Track and Field Continues to Set School Records and Qualify for ECACs

The outdoor men's and women's track and field team both had solid performances this past Saturday at the Western PA Championships at IUP.  The men placed sixth out of 12 teams, while the women came in at eighth in a field of 13.

The men were led by their relay teams.  Both the 4 x 100 meter and 4 x 800 meter relay teams finished second, with times of 43.35 and 8:18.20 respectively.  The 4 x 100 team's time was a new school record and enough to qualify them for the ECAC Championships.  Mike Ferraro (Erie/Harborcreek) was part the 4 x 100 meter team and also excelled individually with two top-5 finishes in the 100 and 200 meter dash events.  Dan Mitchell (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) heaved the javelin 53.44 meters and is now also qualified for the ECACs.  The men finished with a total of 47 points,

The women's team was paced by Kim Chapman (Cranberry Township/Seneca Valley) and Lisa Brozewicz (Wattsburg/Seneca).  Chapman won the 400 meter hurdles event with a time of 1:07.01 and qualified for the ECACs in the process.  Brozewicz broke a Behrend record for the second consecutive week in the 3000 meter steeplechase, with a time of 12:37.70.

Track and field will be in action again next Saturday, April 7 at the Mt. Union Invitational.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m
