05-03-02 Track and Field Athletes Heading to ECACs The Penn State Behrend Track & Field team is sending several athletes to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held in Springfield, Mass. Last year was the first time that the team competed in post-season competition. "We have a record number of qualifiers this year and are expected to score in several events," says head coach Dave Cooper. On the men's side, there are many qualifiers from last year who will once again compete in events. Jay Davids (Union City/Seneca) will be competing in the high jump for the third time in post-season. Other qualifiers from last year are Bill McKinney (Union City/Union City) who will compete in the 200 meter dash, Keith Cerroni (Erie/Central) in the 4 x 400 meter relay, and Dave Ober (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) in the 400 and 200 meter dash. Freshmen Isiah Meek (Wayne/Wayne) will compete in the 110 meter-high hurdles, Mike Barlett (Erie/Iroquois) in the 800 meter dash, and Steve Feder (Butler/Butler) and Don Hackworth (Monroville/Gateway) in the Pole Vault. Adding to the men will be junior Nick Peth (Renfrew/Butler) who will compete in the javelin. The women will send six members from the team, half freshman and half ECAC qualifiers from last year. Lynn Hermann (Erie/Villa Maria) will compete in the Javelin, Lindsay Schulte(Jefferson Hills/Thomas Jefferson) in the 100 and 200 meter triple jump, and Heather Efaw (Zelienople/Seneca Valley) in the 4 x 400 meter relay. Freshmen Marlena McNutt (Sigel/Brookville) will compete in the 100 meter dash, Jessica Sarver (Freeport/Freeport) in the 1500 meter dash, and Amanda VanTassel (Corry/Corry) in the 4 x 400 meter relay. The Behrend Lions will head to Springfield, Mass., on May 16 and 17 for the ECAC Championships. Back to Track and Field News Index |
