Men's Track & Field Take First Place at Bill Van Horen Invitational

The Behrend Men and Women track teams competed this past weekend in the Bill Van Horne Invitational in Wheeling, West Virginia with solid performances from both teams. The men placed first overall out of a field of 14 teams and the women placed third among the 14 teams of competition.

From the champion men’s side many athletes had strong performances led by sophomore Kevin Gorny(Erie/Mcdowell) who finished first in the 3,000 m Steeplechase with an impressive time of 10:04.05. Also finishing first for the Lions was Ronson Mazany (Ashville, NY/Panama Central ) in the long jump with a winning distance of 6.33 m. Mazany also placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 12.85’. Jordan Telin (North Huntingdon/Norwin) took home a first place finish in the 400 m dash with a time of 51.12 seconds. The 4x100 relay team was also able to come out on top with a winning time of 42.74 seconds.

From the women’s side sophomore Dana Turley (Sarver/Freeport ) dominated the 400 m hurdles with a time of 1:08.03. In the women’s high jump sophomore Sara Byers (New Castle/Mohawk) finished second clearing 1.47 m and was closely followed by freshman teammate Aubry Regan (Waterford/General McLane) who cleared 1.37 m, earning her a solid third place. In the 100 m dash Virginia Rodger-Owens  (Washington, DC/P.L. Dunbar)  had another strong showing, finishing second with a time of 13.15.

The track teams will have another opportunity to compete this weekend as they head to Washington and Jefferson Invitational on Saturday, April 5 to compete. The time has not yet been announced.
