PENN STATE BEHREND TRACK AND FIELD EXCELS AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS Penn State Behrend's track and field athletes' performed exceptionally well at the ECAC Track and Field Championships held at MIT in Boston, MA, on Saturday, May 17. The Behrend Lions had six athletes earned All-ECAC honors based on their performances. Shane Rock (McKean/General McLane) placed fourth at the triple jump at 44' 4.75. Steve Feder (Butler/Butler) was seventh in the pole vault at 13'9, Isiah Meek (Wayne, NJ/Wayne) was also seventh in the 110 hurdles in 14.99, and Staci Banaszek (Erie/Harborcreek) was seventh in the women's high jump at 5' 2.5. The 4 x 100 relay team of Rock, Meek, Matt Beckman (Edinboro/ General McLane), and Jason Kuntz (Fairview/Fairview) placed seventh in 44.09. "I was very impressed with the way our athletes responded to the tough competition," said second-year head coach Dave Cooper. "For a young program I feel we made an excellent showing." This is the third consecutive year the Behrend Lions track and field team has qualified athletes for this prestigious event. The seven competitors earning All-ECAC accolades is another Behrend record. Also placing at the ECAC Championships were Beckman in the pole vault in 12th place at 13'3, and Brad Rank (Jonestown/North Lebanon) finished 13th at 12'9. Sophomore Mike Bartlett (Erie/Iroquois) placed 13th in the 800 M in 1:59.62. Jessica Knapp (Erie/McDowell) placed 10th in the 5000 M in 18:37.95, Jessica Sarver (Freeport/Freeport) was 13th in the 5000 M in 18:47.75, and placed 19th in the 1500 M in 4:59.89. Also, Laura Packosky (North Huntingdon/Norwin) finished 12th in the javelin at 106' 6. The men's team placed 26th out of 59 teams and the women finished 46th of 62 squads.
