2004 INDOOR TRACK & FIELD UNDERWAY The 2004 Indoor Track and Field season is officially underway for the blue and white. The first test for Behrend Lions runners, jumpers, and throwers came on Saturday, January 24, against seven other schools at the Slippery Rock Invitational. On the women's side senior Jessica Knapp (Erie/McDowell) placed first in the 3000 meter run in a school record time of 10:48.30. Freshman Leslie Gentile (Corry/Corry) also set a new school mark, running the 5000 meter run in 20:03.30. Overall, the women managed to take 11 top ten places. The men also performed extremely well, placing in the top ten 18 times. Head coach Dave Cooper was pleased with the meet results. "We got off to a good start this weekend, and saw solid performances from virtually everybody. Both the men and women placed in all but two events they competed in, and they did so against predominantly Division II competition." Next up for the Behrend Lions is the Case Western Reserve - Spartan Relays on January 31. In February the team will travel to the Fredonia Invitational and the Mount Union Invitational. In these three meets the team will look to qualify athletes for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which are to be held March 11-12. Back to Track and Field News Index |
