Behrend Athletes Shine at ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships
Eight
Penn State Behrend track & field athletes represented themselves
well at the ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Tufts
University March 6 and 7. Over 100 Division III institutions
sent track & field athletes to Boston to compete at the
championships, and the blue and white had several notable successes
over the weekend.
Jenna Fatica (Erie/Villa Maria) capped off a terrific indoor season
by setting a new Behrend record in the 800 meter run. She
finished in a time of 2:19.68 which was good for eleventh place
overall. Fatica also anchored the women's 4x800 meter relay
team which finished with a time of 9:43.43, taking third place.
Relay members Tanisha Wheatley (Saltsburg/Kiski), Meghan
Kronenwetter (St. Marys/Elk County), and Amanda Wehrle (Rossiter/Punxsutawney)
were named All-ECAC along with Fatica for this finish, which also set
a new Behrend record.
The men's top finisher was Ronson Mazany (Ashville, NY/Panama
Central) who took fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 21
feet 7.25 inches. Bryson Hartzler
(Belleville/Indian Valley) finished sixth overall in the high jump,
marking at 6 feet, 4.25 inches. Mazany and Hartzler each
earned All-ECAC recognition for their event.
Mazany also finished tenth in the triple jump, going 44 feet 8
inches to set a Behrend record. Eston Winn (Erie/McDowell)
tied a Behrend record in the men's pole vault when he vaulted 14
feet 5.25 inches, taking fifteenth place in that event.
Penn State Behrend will begin the outdoor track & field season March
27 and 28 when the squad heads south to West Virginia to compete in
the Wheeling Invitational.
