Behrend Track & Field Athletes Put Up More Great Performances at The Rock

The Penn State Behrend track & field teams had several notable performances on April 11 at the Slippery Rock Invitational, with Behrend Lions crowding the top of the scoreboard in many events.

Ronson Mazany (Ashville, NY/Panama Central) continued to dominate in the jumping events.  At Slippery Rock, Mazany took first place in the long jump (6.64 m), first place in the triple jump (13.49 m), and fifth place in the high jump (1.83 m).  Teammate Bryson Hartzler (Belleville, PA/Indian Valley) took first place in the high jump with a mark of 1.93 m in that event, his third consecutive win in that event, which was also an ECAC qualifying mark.

Earl Bass (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.34 seconds while teammate Mike Stark (Gibsonia, PA/Pine Richland) finished fourth, running 15.67 seconds.  Both Bass and Stark turned in ECAC qualifying times.

For the women, Jenna Fatica (
Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) took second in the 800m run with a time of 2:23.31.  Virginia Rodgers-Owens (Washington, DC/Dunbar) turned in ECAC qualifying times in the 100 meter dash (12.60) earning a third place in that event, and in the 200 meter dash (26.22) earning a fourth place finish.

Tanisha Wheatley (Saltsburg, PA/Kiski) took second in the 3000 meter steeplechase (12:43.09), Liz Keller (Bradford, PA/Bradford) took third in the 1500 meter run (5:00.47), Mandy Wehrle (
Rossiter, PA/Punxsutawney) was third in the 400 meter dash (1:03.72), and Mallory Souleret (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) was third in the 3000 meter run (11:33.36).

The blue and white will get their next chance to compete at the Westminster Invitational on Saturday, April 18.
