Behrend Volleyball Chosen Second in AMCC Poll The blue and white posted a fine 2004 season earning a 7-2 mark in league play and played in the league finals under first-year head coach Phil Pisano. In the league poll, Behrend was selected to finish second to seven-time champion, Frostburg State. "The second place ranking is about what I expected," said Pisano. "Frostburg deserves the number-one ranking based on what they have accomplished. There will be more balance in the AMCC this year. The poll is a starting point to see what the expectations are by others around the league." Senior setter Amanda Evans (Pittsburgh/Upper St. Clair) had an outstanding junior season and will be the floor leader for the Behrend Lions. She was a second-team all-conference selection and ranked first in the AMCC in assists per game (10.32). A year ago she had 1,166 assists to move into first for a season, and took over the top spot for a career as well with a combined 3,344 assists in her three seasons. Behrend opens the 2005 season at the Marietta Tournament on September 2. They play Ohio Valley at 5:00 p.m. and Denison at 7:00 p.m. on Fenton Court. The AMCC starts league play on Wednesday, September 28. The conference championship will be on November 5, hosted by the number-one seed. The league champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. "Our players are driven to improving themselves each day," continued Pisano. "Their goal is to be at the top when it counts." |
