Behrend Volleyball Opens Season at Marietta Tournament

The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team begins its 2005 season this weekend at Marietta College’s River City Classic on September 2-3.

Behrend will open Friday with Ohio Valley University at 5:00 p.m. and Denison University at 7:00 p.m.  The squad will finish play on Saturday by facing host Marietta College at 10:00 a.m. and Seton Hill University at 12:00 p.m.

Senior setter Amanda Evans (Upper St. Clair/Upper St. Clair) will lead the charge for Behrend Lions who are eager to begin the season.  Coach Phil Pisano said, “We’re looking forward to competing against four strong teams this weekend.  Traveling to Marietta allows us a chance to test ourselves right out of the gate.”

The blue and white hope to continue their momentum from last season in which they advanced to the AMCC championship match and saw four players named all-conference.  In 2004 the Behrend Lions were 17-15 and 7-2 in the AMCC.
