Volleyball Wins Both Matches at Saturday's Behrend Invitational

The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team captured wins in both matches Saturday, September 10 to finish 3-1 in the 2005 Behrend Invitational. 

In the 11:30 a.m. match Behrend battled to a five game victory over Principia (IL), 30-24, 30-23, 23-30, 27-30, 15-11. Junior Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch) led the attack with 26 kills while senior setter Amanda Evans (Upper St. Clair/Upper St. Clair) dished out a season-high 62 assists and tallied 18 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) chipped in with 27 digs.

In the second match, Behrend dismissed Bethany in three straight games 30-11, 30-27, 30-14. Voltz again dominated the net, posting 17 kills while junior Lisa Wagner (New Castle/Laurel) contributed 13 kills and 10 digs.  For her efforts, Voltz was named to the Behrend Invitational All-Tournament Team.  

"The team responded well in pressure situations, and we continue to grow each time we take the floor.  The players worked really hard today and we're pleased with our progress to this point," said head coach Phil Pisano.

Saturday's wins evened the Behrend Lions season record at 4-4. The next match for the blue and white is at home on  Wednesday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m. when the Thiel Tomcats travel to Erie for a non-conference match.
