Volleyball Set to Clinch AMCC Regular Season Title

The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team is one win away from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) regular season championship and can clinch the regular season title when they host Medaille College on Wednesday, October 26 at the Junker Center.  The AMCC regular season champion earns the #1 seed and right to host the AMCC Championships which will be held November 4 and 5.  The Behrend Lions are currently on a nine match winning streak with a 22-7 overall record and 7-0 mark in AMCC action.

Coach Phil Pisano said, “The regular season title and #1 seed have been goals of ours all season.  The players have worked extremely hard to put themselves in this position, and are very excited to have this opportunity.”

The blue and white have been led by a number of standout performers.  Senior setter Amanda Evans (Upper St. Clair/Upper St. Clair) is leading the AMCC in assists per game (11.13) and will play her final regular season home match on Saturday, October 29 against Mt. Aloysius.  Juniors Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch) and Lisa Wagner (New Castle/Laurel) have also been important to the success of the team.  Voltz is leading the AMCC in attack percentage (.364) and kills per game (4.15) while Wagner is fourth in both kills per game (3.65) and digs per game (3.59).  Juniors Karla Murray (North East/North East) and Paige Payer (Venango/Cambridge Springs) have also been major contributors and have started every match.

The Behrend Lions have won 15 of their last 16 matches and have two home matches remaining, both against AMCC opponents, October 26 vs. Medaille, and October 29 vs. Mt. Aloysius.
