Behrend Advances to AMCC Championship to Meet Altoona

The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team beat #4 Pitt-Bradford (10-15, 5-4 AMCC) in four games Friday night, November 4 to advance to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship match where they will play host to Penn-State Altoona.  After some first game jitters, in which they lost 33-31, the blue and white turned it on through the next three, winning 30-11, 30-12, and 30-25.

The #1 seed Behrend Lions (25-7, 9-0 AMCC) were led by senior setter Amanda Evans (Upper St. Clair/Upper St. Clair) dished out 44 assists to go along with eight digs in the win.  Junior middle hitter Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch) had a team high 15 kills and seven blocks, while junior outside hitter Lisa Wagner (New Castle/Laurel) finished with 14 kills and 13 digs.  Also posting big nights were junior outside hitter Karla Murray (North East/North East) who pounded 13 kills and had four aces, junior outside hitter Paige Payer (Venango/Cambridge Springs) with six blocks and freshman defensive specialist Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) with 15 digs and six aces.

In the second match of the night, #2 Penn State Altoona (21-6, 8-1 AMCC) defeated #3 Frostburg State (17-16, 7-2 AMCC) in four games by scores of 30-21, 30-21, 28-30, 30-24.  Leading the way for Penn State Altoona was sophomore outside hitter Sara Kylor who finished with 17 kills, sophomore defensive specialist Megan Goss who registered 19 digs, and senior middle hitter Erin Monn who put away 13 kills.

Penn State Behrend will face Penn State Altoona in the AMCC Championship match at 1:00 pm on Saturday at the Junker Center.  The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
