Behrend Falls to Gettysburg in NCAA Tournament First Round


The Penn State Behr
end women's volleyball team was defeated by Gettysburg in three close games in the first round of the NCAA Division III volleyball tournament held at Juniata College on Thursday, November 10.  Behrend fell 30-26, 30-25, and 34-32.

Junior Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch) was one of the bright spots for Behrend, she recorded 12 kills and five digs. Amanda Evans (Upper St. Clair/Upper St. Clair) led the way in assists, with 32.  Karla Murray (North East/North East) was the team's other offensive threat, with eight kills.  Behrend's defensive stars were Lisa Wagner (New Castle/Laurel), and Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell).  Wagner had 21 digs while Hennessey added 18. 

The blue and white were seeded sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region after gaining an automatic bid for winning the AMCC conference.  The Gettysburg Bullets were the number three seed, and will move on to the second round to face the winner of the Eastern versus Scranton match-up.
