Netters Earn Pair of Wins in Friday's Behrend Lions Invitational
The Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team
opened their home tournament on Friday, September 8, winning a pair of
matches in three straight games.
Behrend disposed of D'Youville 30-14, 30-16, and 30-15 in their first match of the year in the Junker. Senior middle-hitter Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch) paced the attack with nine kills and a game-high seven blocks. Instrumental in the win was sophomore defensive specialist Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) with four service aces and nine digs. Lisa Wagner added seven kills in the sweep.
In the second match, Behrend (3-0) powered through Kenyon 30-17, 30-20, and 30-21. Freshman setter Brooke Gallentine ( Mt.Pleasant/Southmoreland) tallied 35 assists, while Paige Payer (Venango/ Cambridge Springs) added 7 kills and Brittany Hennessy collected 19 digs.
"I thought our players worked really hard today," said head coach Phil Pisano. "We enjoyed the atmosphere in our home gym. Hopefully we can put together another strong effort tomorrow."
