Behrend Volleyball Adds Two More Wins on Saturday

The Penn State Behrend volleyball team added two more victories on Saturday against La Roche and NAIA opponent Daemen to remain undefeated to start the season and push its record to 12-0 and 1-0 in the AMCC.  

In the first match of the day, Behrend cruised to a 3-0 victory in their AMCC opener against La Roche.  Match scores were 30-9, 30-6, and 30-23.  Freshman outside hitter Lorena Babbitt (Cochranton/Cochranton) led the attack with eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Pence (Youngsville/Youngsville) added six kills.  Sophomore middle hitter Jenna Benzenhoefer (Murrysville/Franklin Regional) also posted solid numbers, with six kills and five blocks.  Junior defensive specialist Deanna Ciccarelli (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills) added nine digs and four service aces in the win. 

Behrend battled a spirited Daemen squad in the third match of the day, but prevailed in four games.  Daemen captured the first game 30-26, but the blue and white would respond to take the next three games by scores of 30-26, 30-16, and 30-26.  Senior middle hitter Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch) controlled the net with 18 kills and five blocks.  Freshman middle hitter Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) posted 12 kills and six blocks.  Defensively, the Behrend Lions were led by sophomore defensive specialist Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) who had 24 digs and Ciccarelli who had 19 digs.

In the second match on Saturday, Daemen dismissed La Roche in three games.  Match scores were 30-16, 30-15, and 30-13.  Daemen stays even with a record of 9-9, while La Roche falls to 0-9, 0-1.   

The Behrend Lions are next in action on Tuesday, September 27 when they travel to Hilbert College for an AMCC contest at 7:00 p.m.
