Behrend Grabs Two More Wins, Beating Frostburg and Dickinson

Behrend volleyball picked up two more decisive wins on Saturday, October 14, when they hosted a tri-match that included AMCC rival Frostburg State and the Dickinson Red Devils.  The women took game one of the day when they swept the Bobcats 30-23, 30-18, 30-21.  They followed that up with a solid performance against Dickinson, winning three games to one, 30-24, 30-28, 28-30, 30-18.  The pair of victories improves the Behrend Lions record to 22-2 overall, and 5-0 in the conference.

Match one was highlighted by freshman middle hitter Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) who led Behrend with 12 kills.  Lisa Wagner (New Castle/Laurel) recorded a team-high 15 digs, while Brittanny Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) added 10.  Brooke Gallentine (Mt. Pleasant/Southmoreland) had another strong performance at setter, setting up hitters for a game-high 25 assists.

Match two of the day was a battle between Frostburg State and Dickinson.  Dickinson took the first two games, before Frostburg State (9-17, 4-1) fought back to take games three and four.  The Red Devils would go on to win the match in game five, 15-10.

Behrend then grabbed the first two games against Dickinson (12-13) before dropping game three by two points.  The blue and white would respond, storming back in game four to blow out Dickinson by 12.  Voltz again starred for Behrend on offense, racking up 12 kills along with four blocks.  Hennessy spearheaded the defensive effort, chalking up 26 digs in addition to a team-high five aces.  Karla Murray (North East/North East) put up nine kills and 14 digs. 

The Behrend women play again on Tuesday, October 17 when they travel to Medaille.  They will be back in the Junker for senior night on Wednesday, October 25 to host the Pitt-Bradford Panthers.
