Behrend Women Shine on Senior Night, Roll Panthers in Three Straight

Penn State Behrend volleyball moved to an impressive 25-2 and 8-0 in the AMCC on Wednesday, October 25 after handing the Pitt-Bradford Panthers a 3-0 defeat 30-18, 30-19, 30-19.  The blue and white honored five seniors before the game as part of senior night 2006.  Lisa Wagner (New Castle/Laurel), Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch), Katie Ward (Monaca/Center), Karla Murray (North East/North East), and Paige Payer (Venango/Cambridge Springs) were the senior honorees.

Voltz and Wagner both rose to the occasion on their night of celebration, recording 15 kills and 11 kills respectively.  Sophomore libero Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) anchored the defense, chalking up 16 digs. Murray finished with 13 digs, five kills, and two aces.  Deanna Ciccarelli (Penn Hills/Penn Hills) combined with Voltz to nail ten service aces.  

With the win Behrend has clinched a first round bye in the AMCC Tournament.  Behrend closes out the AMCC regular season on Saturday, October 28, when they travel to Penn State Altoona (15-11, 8-0).  A win there clinches the #1 seed and right to host the AMCC Championship on November 3 and 4.
