Blue and White Advance to 2006 AMCC Volleyball Championship Game

On Friday, November 3, the top-seeded women's volleyball team dropped fourth-seeded Lake Erie (12-23) in three straight games by identical 30-15 scores. Behrend will advance to the AMCC Championship match for the second straight season. With another win on Saturday, November 4, in the title match at 1:00 p.m., Behrend would earn the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

"We executed really well tonight," said head coach Phil Pisano. "We are particularly pleased with our team playing outstanding defense. Everyone enjoyed the big crowd, the playoff atmosphere, and the opportunity to host the tournament."

Once again the Behrend seniors made their presence felt as Lisa Wagner (New Castle/Laurel) and Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch) each finished with 12 kills. Sophomore Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) and senior Karla Murray (North East/North East) led the defensive effort with 17 and 12 digs respectively.

In the second semifinal match, #2 seed Penn State Altoona (15-12, 8-1) swept #3 Frostburg State (13-18, 7-2) in three straight.  Altoona will square off against Behrend on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  In first round games on Tuesday, October 31, Lake Erie defeated Pitt-Greensburg 3-1 to advance to semifinal play, while Frostburg State dismissed Pitt-Bradford in three straight games.

The blue and white earned the AMCC regular season title, #1 seed, and right to host the conference tournament after completing their second consecutive AMCC regular season undefeated.  Behrend currently sits with a 27-2 overall record and won AMCC Championships in 2001 and 2005.
