Several Penn State Behrend Volleyball Players Selected to 2006 AMCC All-Conference Team
The
Penn State Behrend volleyball team collected several postseason honors voted
on by the AMCC coaches and announced on Monday, November 6. The
Behrend Lions had six players receive recognition for outstanding play
during the 2006 season.
Senior middle hitter Elaine Voltz (Saxonburg/Knoch) was named the
AMCC Player of the Year in addition to her selection to the All-AMCC First
Team. Voltz, who was also the 2005 AMCC Player of the Year, leads the
blue and white with 385 kills and 112 total blocks this season.
Also named to the All-AMCC First Team were senior outside hitter Lisa Wagner
(New Castle/Laurel) and sophomore defensive specialist Brittany Hennessy
(Hopewell/Hopewell). Wagner, also a first-team selection in 2005,
produced 349 digs, 243 kills, and 52 service aces this fall. Hennessy,
a second-team selection in 2005, leads Behrend with 523 digs and 62 service
aces.
The blue and white had one representative on the All-AMCC Second Team with
freshman setter Brooke Gallentine (Mt. Pleasant/Southmoreland) earning the
honor. Gallentine has totaled 980 assists and 289 digs in her first
season of action.
Senior outside hitter Karla Murray (North East/North East) and freshman
middle hitter Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) were both named All-AMCC
Honorable Mention. This is the first selection for Murray, a
three-year starter and team captain. She has tallied 320 digs, 39
service aces, and 86 kills in her final season. Ogden has produced big
numbers at the net, racking up 224 kills and a team-leading .347 attack
percentage to go along with 61 total blocks.
Head coach Phil Pisano was also selected as the AMCC Coach of the Year for
the second straight season.
Penn State Behrend (27-3) will compete in the ECAC Division III Southern Volleyball
Championship hosted by New Jersey City University on November 10 and 11.
Behrend will face Lebanon Valley (21-12) in a quarterfinal match on Friday
at 6:00 p.m.
