Volleyball Posts 1-1 Mark Friday in Tournament in Junker Center

The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball program opened its 2007 home tournament splitting a pair of games on Friday, September 7. Behrend cruised past D'Youville in three straight games (30-19, 30-20, 30-24), but lost in the evening match to Grove City in three straight (19-30, 24-30, 20-30).

In the opening game, Behrend's Carissa Johnston (Cambridge Springs/ Cambridge Springs) poured on 10 kills and six digs, while Jenna Benzenhoefer (Murraysville/Franklin Regional) added eight kills and three blocks against the Lady Spartans. Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell) contributed 16 digs and two aces in the victory.

Against the Wolverines, Behrend was led by sophomore Shelia Odgen (Grove City/Grove City) who had four kills and four blocks. Senior Deanna Ciccarelli (Penn Hills/Penn Hills) earned 10 digs and Johnson chipped in 9 kills.

In other results on Friday night, Fredonia beat Medaille and Bethany, while Grove City dropped Behrend and Medaille as both teams posted 2-0 marks. D'Youville went 1-1 and Bethany and Medaille were both 0-2 after one day of play. 

Action resumes in the Junker Center on Saturday morning. The  Behrend Lions (4-2) will play Bethany (WV) and then compete against Fredonia (NY) at 2:00 p.m.
