Behrend Lions Battle Grove City and Lose Heartbreaker in Five
Grove City defeated the blue and white in three straight during the Behrend Invitational earlier this season and entered Tuesday's game with a 10-1 mark. The Wolverines won game one 30-25, but Behrend bounced back with consecutive wins in game two and three 31-29, 30-26. Game four was all Grove City as the Wolverines forced game five after a 30-23 win. In game five, Behrend leapt out to a 8-4 lead before sophomore Brooke Gallentine's (Mt.Pleasant/ Southmoreland) serving ace allowed Behrend to extend it to an 11-4 margin, but Grove City would rally 11-2 to close out the match, 15-13. Danielle Woods (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) led the Behrend offense with 15 kills and added 19 digs. Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) contributed 12 kills and 7 blocks in the tough loss. Brittany Hennessy (Hopewell/Hopewell), who was recognized prior to the contest for surpassing the 1,000 digs plateau during her sophomore season, added 41 digs. In tonight's game, Grove City head coach Susan Roberts earned her 500 volleyball coaching victory while at the helm of the Grove City program.
The Behrend Lions will now play four straight league matches.
Behrend opens the 2007 AMCC season with a road match this Saturday,
September 22 at La Roche (2-11) at 1:00 p.m. Then the blue and white hosts
Hilbert and Pitt-Greensburg before heading into Ohio to battle the Lake Erie
Storm and then going to the Fredonia State Invitational on October 5 and 6. |
