2003 AMCC Volleyball Championships at Frostburg

Frostburg State will host this year's 2003 AMCC Volleyball championship tournament on October 31 through November 1.  Frostburg State, Penn State Behrend, Penn State Altoona, and Pitt-Bradford are all slated to take part in this year's tournament.

Penn State Behrend, the number two seed, will play Penn State Altoona, the number three seed in the first round of the tournament starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.  Frostburg State, the number one seed will then play the number four seed Pitt Bradford in an 8:00 p.m. match.  The winner of each of these matches will play in the championship game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Behrend and Altoona have competed against each other twice in the regular season.  The first time the two teams met, Altoona took the win.  Behrend later redeemed themselves with a 3-1 win in Altoona.

The Behrend Lions will look to compete in the AMCC Championship game for the fourth consecutive year having taken the top spot in 2001.  In 2002 and 2000, Behrend lost to Frostburg in the finals both years.  The squad enters the tournament with an 8-4 record in the conference and a 17-16 record overall.

Danielle Bemis (Corry/Corry) recently broke Behrends career-kills record and will be relied on heavily to help advance the team through the tournament, as well as Trisha Adams (Fairview/Fairview) who leads the team in kills with 292 and serving aces with 49.  Ashley Ordy (Butler/Butler) leads in digs posting 443 this season, and Amanda Evans (Pittsburgh/Upper St. Clair) leads in assists with 815.
