Water Polo Players Earn Academic Honors

The American Water Polo Coaches Association has released the 2000-2001 women's All-Academic Team. Penn State Behrend freshman Lauren Packer (Fleming/Bald
Eagle) earned a 3.37 in the classroom, while senior teammate Kate Galley
(North Hunington/Norwin) worked for a 3.23 to earn this prestigious honor.

Packer served as Behrend's goalie, while Galley was a field player.
In addition, Penn State Behrend's women's team grade point average of 2.92
ranked them 17th by the association. Boston University led the group with a cumulative gpa of 3.34.

"For being a first year program and traveling as much as we did, it is a well-deserved honor for Lauren and Kate," said head coach Josh Heynes. "Balancing academics and athletics can be a challenge, but they did are great job. We are also pleased with our team's collective performance in the classroom"

The Behrend Lions water polo program was in its first year of competition. With the new Athletics and Recreation Center now open, the program is excited to have a home and to grow. Last season, the squad went 0-22, but they played tough competition that included Division I level teams such as Princeton, Notre Dame, Marist, and Bucknell. The spring season begins in the first week of March 2002.
