Water Polo Places Fourth at Division III Eastern Championships

The men's water polo team placed fourth this past weekend at the Division Eastern Championships. This marked the highest finish for the program. In the opening pair of games, Behrend lost to Johns Hopkins 21-12, but bounced back with a 16-11 victory over Connecticut College. In the semifinals the Behrend Lions were knotted 7-7 with MIT, ranked #7 nationally, before falling 16-11.  The blue and white placed fourth overall, their highest finish in the brief history of the program. Freshman Anthony Spoto tallied 16 goals, 6 steals and 3 assists in the four games. For his efforts he was named to the all-tournament team with teammate Andre Pranckevicius.

Earlier this season Spoto set a new school record for goals scored in a single season. Spoto has scored 67 goals to date. Pranckevicius also eclipsed the single season goal record earlier this season and currently has 60 on the year.

Next up for the Behrend Lions will be the CWPA Southern Championships at Princeton, NJ.
