Anthony Spoto Earns Try-Out for Senior Men's National Team Anthony Spoto (Birmingham/Birmingham Seaholm), a freshman utility player, has recently traveled to Los Alamitos, California, to try out for the Senior Men's National Team. The team is composed of many of the world's top water polo players. In his first season, Spoto scored 65 goals in varsity games, and an additional 10 goals in exhibition matches. His total set a new single season mark at Behrend. Spoto also had 27 steals, 52 drawn kickouts, and 11 assists. "An opportunity of a lifetime opened up, and we wanted to take advantage of it," said coach Tristan "It's not every day you get the chance to compete against the best players in the country, where the top picks go to the Olympics. Spoto played like he belonged there; he turned a lot of heads and earned a lot of respect," said Tristan. Spoto is currently competing for the swim team, where he contends in the breaststroke and sprint events. |
