Behrend Water Polo Dropped by Powerhouse Johns Hopkins and MIT

Men's water polo fell to the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays in their second game of the day, 18-4, and then fought hard in a losing effort to the MIT Engineers, 13-7.  The men took their first game 13-12 in a thrilling overtime victory over Connecticut College. 

Both the Blue Jays and the Engineers improve to 2-0 and will meet in the championship game tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.  The Behrend men are up again on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. when they will meet Connecticut College for the second time, with the winner taking third place in the tournament. 

In other action from day one of the tournament, MIT edged out Washington & Jefferson by a count of 7-6.  Connecticut College was also victorious over Washington & Jefferson, 13-7.

Starring for Behrend in game two against the Blue Jays was Anthony Spoto (Birmingham, MI/Seaholm), Spoto recorded two goals in the game, bring his total to four through two games.  Andre Pranckevicius (Miami, FL/Miami Beach) added one, to ring up a two-game total of five scores.

Behrend's final game of the day against the MIT Engineers was a hard fought battle that went back and forth.  MIT jumped out early, scoring twice in the first minute of regulation.  Behrend would come roaring back on the arm's of Spoto and Ian Johnson (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) to take a 5-3 lead.  Spoto put in three, to up his total to six goals on the day, while Johnson found two scores of his own.  MIT would claw back to go up 6-5 at the half.  The Engineers would turn it up in the second half, outscoring the Behrend Lions 7-2 on their way to a 13-7 victory.
