Leandro Azevedo Earns All-American Honors, Three Others named to All-American Academic Team

Several members of the Penn State Behrend men's water polo team were recognized by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) as having acheived excellence in and out of the pool.  "Managing a strenuous course load while participating in an intercollegiate sport is a very challenging task," said ACWPC Executive Director, Mike Lewis.  "This is emblematic of water polo's tradition of supporting both academic and athletic prowess."

Headlining the awards given to Behrend players was Leandro Azevedo (Miami, FL/Miami Beach), who achieved All-America status as part of the Division III All-American Honorable Mention Team.  Azevedo saw action in 19 games, recording 163 saves and 26 steals between the pipes.  He also chalked up three goals and five assists in limited action on the offensive end.  Azevedo carries a 3.36 in the classroom as a Finance major.

Jacob Hayden (Greensburg/Hempfield), Derek Sieber (Erie/McDowell), and Jacob Bernstein (Sierra Madre, CA/Pasadena) were all named to the All-American Academic Team.  Members of the team must excel in the pool and carry at least a 3.2 GPA.  Hayden had 55 saves, two steals, and one goal in 10 games.  The freshman earned 'Superior' status with his 3.58 GPA.  Also making 'Superior' status was Bernstein, who had three goals, eight steals, three assists, and five drawn kickouts while also earning a 3.42 GPA.  Rounding out the group was Sieber, who earned a 3.35 as a freshman and recorded 11 goals, 17 steals, six assists, and five drawn kickouts.
