Behrend Women's Basketball Falls to
Pitt-Greensburg in AMCC Game
The
Penn State Behrend women's basketball team dropped a 79-64 decision
to visiting Pitt-Greensburg in an AMCC contest on Saturday, December
13 at the Junker Center in front of 212 fans. With the win
Pitt-Greensburg improves to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in AMCC play, while
Behrend falls to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.
In the first half the visiting Bobcats came out firing, building a
19-4 lead behind the strong play of Amanda Sheaffer who scored 15
first-half points. The Behrend Lions cut the lead to 22-11
with seven minutes to play and the teams battled to a 36-23 halftime
score in favor of Pitt-Greensburg.
Natalie Engel (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry)
led the blue and white in the first half with seven points in 16
minutes played.
In the second half the Behrend Lions would twice cut the
Pitt-Greensburg lead to six. First, using a 14-7 run to open
the second half to make it a 43-37 game with 16 minutes to play and
again getting it to six at 50-44 with 12 minutes remaing. The
visiting Bobcats settled down and built there lead back up past
double digits to earn the victory and stay undefeated in AMCC play.
Leading the blue and white in scoring was
Kelly Nowacinski (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) who had 16 points to go with
her six boards. Also in double figures was Engel with 13 and Amy Oldach (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy)
with ten. Also putting up solid numbers was
Christine Krankota (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Conneaut Lake)
who had seven points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Sheaffer led Pitt-Greensburg with 21 points while Kelsey Wilcox
posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The blue and white are off until after the new year. The squad will
return from winter break to play three straight on the road,
starting with a 6:00 p.m. January 5 contest at Grove City.
