Frostburg State to Win Fourth Straight at Home
The
Penn State Behrend women's basketball team captured a one-point win
over Frostburg State, on Saturday, January 24 at home in the Junker
Center by a score of 62-61.
In the first half the blue and white used pressure defense to snag
11 steals and saw nine players get into the scoring column.
Amy Oldach (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria)
scored nine of her 15 on the day in the first half. The blue
and white used a late push during the first half to build a 31-24
advantage at halftime.
The blue and white quickly pushed the lead to eleven to open the
second half with two quick layups. The Frostburg State Bobcats
would respond and were down 44-37 before going on a 12-2 run to snag
their first lead in the second half at 49-48 with just under nine
minutes to play. Frostburg held a five point lead with 4:35 to
play before Behrend responded with a run of its own to tie the game.
The teams battled out the last three minutes but Behrend got buckets
by
Natalie Engel (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) and
Oldach to take a slight edge. Oldach would knock down two free
throws to give the blue and white a three point lead with 19
seconds to go. The Behrend Lions defense would hold on for a
62-61 win.
Frostburg State was led by Brittany James and Caryn Wright.
James would drop 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor.
Wright would have a huge game under the basket grabbing 16 rebounds
and 19 points.
Behrend was led by Oldach and Engel
who finished with 15 and 17 respectively. Oldach would add five
assists and six boards. Richardson was big for the Behrend Lions
defense with coming up with eight steals.
The blue and white play their next two games on the road, on
January 28 at Mount Aloysius and on January 31 at Pitt-Greensburg. They
will return to the Junker Center on February 4 when they take on AMCC foe
Hilbert.
