Behrend Lions Capture Winter Classic Championship With 66-53 Defeat of Thomas More

Penn State Behrend held off Thomas More 66-53 in Saturday's Winter Classic tournament championship game held at the Junker Center.  The Behrend Lions held the Saints (5-4) to 33% shooting from the floor and forced 16 turnovers, as they turned a two point halftime lead into a thirteen point victory.

Penn State Behrend's Rachel Slomski (Erie/McDowell) finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds and the junior was named tournament MVP for her efforts. 

Sophomore Jessica Serafin (Boalsburg/Bellefonte), who was named to the all-tournament team, also tallied 16 points, as she was three of four on three-point field goals.  Junior Brittany Mays contributed 14 points, seven rebounds, and four steals as the Behrend Lions evened their record to 3-3. 

In the 1:00 p.m. consolation game Buffalo State defeated Grove City by a score of 60-49.  Buffalo State (3-5) was led by Darnika Moseley's 13 points and 12 rebounds.  Her second double-double of the weekend earned her a spot on the all-tournament team.  High scorer for Grove City (2-7) was Rachel McCoy, who finished with 24 points and ten rebounds on her way to being named to the all-tournament team.

The Behrend women are next in action December 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada where they will face Gettysburg College in the first game of the Adidas Shootout.  Tip-off for that contest is 3:30 p.m. PST.
