Behrend Lions Push Winning Streak to 14 With Victory Over Hilbert

Behrend women's basketball cruised to another victory, their fourteenth consecutive, with a 72-38 win over the Hilbert Hawks on Wednesday, January 31 in the Junker Center.  With the win Behrend improved to an impressive 17-2 overall and 12-1 in the AMCC.

Behrend stifled the Hawks offense right from the opening tip, holding Hilbert to 5-of-25 shooting in the first half.  The blue and white shot 38% in the first half and a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line on the way to a 32-14 lead at the break.

The Behrend Lions did not let up in the second half, forcing the Hawks into difficult shots.  Hilbert made only 29% from the floor in the game, while the Behrend women would connect on 45% of their field goal attempts.

Leading the way for Behrend was Julia Andrus (Corry/Corry) who scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds.  Also scoring in double figures were Brittany Mays (Keystone/Knox) and Meagan Bielanin (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep).  Mays had 13 points, six boards, and five assists.  Bielanin added 10 points, eight assists, and six rebounds.  Gretchen Dudt (Indiana/Indiana) came off the bench for eight points, making 4-of-5 from the floor.

Head coach Roz Fornari said, "This was a real team win.  I'm happy that all our players got a chance to compete and contribute in the game and excited for my team."

Hilbert (1-18, 1-12) was led by Lucy Zver's eight points and Amanda McHale's 11 rebounds.

The women look to continue their tear through the AMCC when they host Penn State Altoona on Saturday, February 3 at 4:00 p.m.
