Soccer Opens with Annual Lauffer Memorial Tournament

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer season opens with the annual Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31. The Behrend Lions play Medaille on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., while Hiram and Baldwin-Wallace battle at 4:00 p.m. The consolation game is set for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. and the championship game is at 4:00 p.m.

Last year the Behrend Lions opened up with a 0-0 tie in a pair of overtimes against a strong Lebanon Valley team before losing 1-0 to Ohio Northern in game two of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament.  "Our team will be a very hardworking and physically athletic team," said eleventh year head coach Dan Perritano.  "The team chemistry will play a critical role in our success."

The Penn State Behrend men's soccer team is looking to build on their 8-10-4 record from last season.  The blue and white played eight overtime games posting a 3-1-4 mark in those contests.  Behrend enters the slate with 15 veteran players who started at some point in the 2002 season.  With a talented group of newcomers joining the mix-making another AMCC title run and an appearance into the postseason a realistic goal. "We will compete for a seventh consecutive AMCC final appearance and also be in the hunt for a postseason bid," said coach Perritano.
