Behrend Battles Frostburg State on the Road for AMCC Championship

The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team will be competing in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship game this Saturday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m.  The Behrend Lions (12-6-1, 5-1) are hoping to claim their fifth AMCC title in the past seven years.

On Saturday, the Behrend Lions will be hosted by the defending champion Frostburg State Bobcats (14-4, 6-0).  Behrend defeated the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (10-6-3, 3-2-1) in a penalty kick thriller on Tuesday to advance to the championship match.  Heather Crawford (Aliquippa/Hopewell) scored Behrend's only goal in regulation, while senior Andrea Krahe (Erie/Villa Maria) converted the decisive penalty kick.  Frostburg State also played Tuesday, defeating the La Roche Redhawks (12-8-1, 3-2-1) by a score of 3-1.  Frostburg State has gone undefeated in league play this year, handing Behrend its only conference defeat along the way in a 4-1 win.

The scoring attack for the Behrend Lions will be led by senior captain Erin Maurer (Erie/Villa Maria) with nine goals and four assists, and sophomore Holly Greiner (McKane/General McLane) with eight goals and nine assists.  The blue and white will rely on the strength of midfielders Michelle Newland (Glenshaw/Fox Chapel) and Kacie Burns (Cheswick/Springdale) to control and distribute the ball.  Freshman goalkeeper Liz Hall (Erie/Iroquois) will anchor the defense.

Under head coach Dan Perritano the program is a remarkable 113-56-11.  The Behrend Lions are hoping to clinch the AMCC title and bring home another championship to the women's soccer program.
