Women's Soccer to Host La Roche in ECAC Quarter-Finals

The 2004 edition of the Behrend Lions soccer team learned Monday afternoon that their season will continue. They have been selected to host an Eastern College Athletic Conference quarter-final contest. Behrend, is the number-three seed and will host sixth-seeded host La Roche on Wednesday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. on the Behrend Fields.

"We are very excited to continue our season, " said first-year head coach Patirck O'Driscoll. "We are playing a team we know really well. It is a great experience for our team to be in the postseason. We are looking forward to Wednesday."  This will be Behrend's fourth appearance in the ECAC Tournament. Behrend was selected in 1997, 1998, and 1999.

Earlier this season Behrend traveled to La Roche and won a hard fought 2-1 game. Then Behrend hosted the Redhawks in the AMCC semifinals and defeated La Roche 3-0 to advance to the conference title game game. The Behrend Lions fell 3-2 in double-overtime to Frostburg State, who earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Johns Hopkins is the number-one seed and host of the ECAC semi-finals and finals. Carnegie Mellon is the number-two seed, while Gwynedd-Mercy seeded fourth and Albright is seeded fifth. With a win on Wednesday the Behrend Lions would get another shot at CMU, who along with Johns Hopkins will earn a first-round bye. On October 21, the Tartans defeated the Behrend Lions 3-0 in Erie.

This season the blue and white started with a youthful squad, but managed to post an impressive 13-5-1 record. They have only two seniors with postseason experience, but are anchored by a core of seven juniors. Five of Behrend's six all-conference players this season are members of the junior class.
