Women's Soccer Finishes Second
in AMCCs, The blue and white rolled through the AMCC regular season with an 8-1 record, outscoring their opponents 53-4, and eventually made their way to the conference finals, losing to Frostburg 2-3 in double overtime. Strong individual performances as part of great team efforts all season long helped name six Behrend Lions to the AMCC All-Conference Team. Junior defender Stephanie Bowen (McMurray/Peters Township) was named to the first-team for the third straight season. Bowen helped lead the team throughout the year, and steadied a defense that allowed just 17 goals in 20 games. Second-team performers were juniors Holly Greiner (McKean/General McLane) and Michelle Newland (Glenshaw/Fox Chapel). Greiner scored eight goals and had three assists in conference play, while Newland found the back of the net five times and had one assist. Earning honorable mention recognition were juniors Heather Crawford (Aliquippa/Hopewell) and Kacie Burns (Cheswick/Springdale) along with sophomore Kara Struski (Meadville/Meadville). The three players scored a combined 34 points in conference matches and 53 points overall. The 13-5-1 Behrend Lions will now look to the postseason, as they received an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) bid. Behrend received the #3 seed, and will host #6 La Roche on Wednesday, November 10, at 2:00 p.m. The conference foes have played twice already this season, with Behrend taking both games.
