Women's Soccer Advances To ECAC Semifinals

On Wednesday, November 10, the Behrend Lions women's soccer team defeated La Roche 4-0 to advance to the ECAC semifinal game.  The game will be held on Saturday, November 13, at Johns Hopkins University versus Carnegie Mellon, at 7:30 p.m.

The game got off to a good start for the blue and white, with junior Kacie Burns (Cheswick/Springdale) scoring 18 minutes in to the match.  Two more first half goals were to follow, with freshmen Emily Miller (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) and Julie Quail (Cranberry/Seneca Valley) giving Behrend a 3-0 lead.  The final goal of the game came off the foot of junior Michelle Newland (Glenshaw/Fox Chapel).  Behrend controlled the ball and game from the outset, out-shooting La Roche 29-5.

In their fifth postseason appearance the blue and white now have their sights set on Carnegie Mellon.  The #3 seeded Behrend Lions (14-5-1) will square off against the #2 seeded Tartans (10-3-3) for the second time this season.  In October Behrend suffered a 3-0 loss to Carnegie Mellon on the Behrend Fields.

With a win on Saturday the team would go on to face the winner of #1 Johns Hopkins versus #4 Gwynedd-Mercy.  The championship game will be held on Sunday, November 14, at 1:00 p.m.
