Kickers Post 1-1 Mark in Season Opening Tournament

The Penn State Behrend women's soccer split a pair of games in their annual Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament. Behrend was upended in game one 3-2 by Washington and Jefferson, but bounced back to blank Juniata 2-0 in the consolation contest. Baldwin-Wallace scored on a penalty kick to beat W & J 1-0 to claim the trophy.

"We are a little disappointed not to have progressed into the championship game but I thought we rebounded well on Sunday and put in a good performance against Juniata," said head coach Patrick O'Driscoll. "It is a long season and we just need to concentrate on improving on a daily basis and preparing for conference play.” The blue and white open AMCC play on Saturday, September 25, when Penn State Altoona comes to town.

In 2003, the Behrend Lions defeated Baldwin-Wallace to win the Herb Lauffer Tournament title. Last season B-W bounced back to win the championship winning 2-1.

In game one Behrend raced out to a 2-0 lead behind goals from senior Holly Greiner (McKean/General McLane) and freshman Nikki Frisbee (Valencia/Mars). W & J responded with three unanswered second half scores to win 3-2. On Sunday Behrend's senior Michelle Crawford (Glenshaw/Fox Chapel) found the back of the net 12:25 seconds into the first half. Frisbee connected on her second goal of the young season less than three minutes into the second half to provide Behrend with the 2-0 win.
