Second-Seeded Behrend Women Host Number Three La Roche

The Behrend women’s soccer team has earned the right to host their AMCC tournament semifinal matchup with La Roche on Wednesday, November 1.  The match will take place on turf at Mercyhurst College at 12:30 p.m. due to poor field conditions at Behrend.  The women enjoyed a first-round bye in the tournament as the number-two seed after going 8-1 in the conference.  La Roche comes in off a 2-1 overtime win over #6 Lake Erie.

The women are led offensively by a group of dominating forwards that have combined for 26 goals on the season.  Nikki Frisbee (Valencia/Mars) compliments her eight goals with a team-high seven assists.  Whitney Putnam (Erie/Villa Maria) and Beth Manganaro (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) have consistently overpowered defenses and come in with nine goals a piece.

The Behrend defense has been equally impressive, chalking up 10 shutouts and holding opposing offensive to a mere 1.03 goals per game.  The women have outscored their opponents 42-19 and outshoot them by an average of six shots a contest.

Behrend was seeded second last season as well and advanced to the championship round where they lost on penalty kicks to Frostburg State.  Behrend may potentially have the opportunity to avenge that loss as the winner of Wednesday's match will face the winner of the Frostburg State vs. Hilbert match.
