Behrend Lions Women's Soccer Picked as Preseason AMCC Favorite

The Penn State Behrend women’s soccer team was selected as the strong favorite to repeat as AMCC Champions in 2007.  Frostburg was picked to finish second, followed by La Roche landing the number three spot.  Behrend finished last season as runners-up in regular conference play and went on to win their first AMCC title in five years.

“It is great that our peers in the league have picked us as the number one pre-season team, however, we must be wary as this is based on our past performances,” said fourth year coach Patrick O’Driscoll.  “Our focus will be on maintaining our high level of play and continuing to have an exceptional team work ethic in the 2007 season as we begin the hard work of defending our AMCC title.”

Last year the blue and white made their second ever appearance at the NCAA tournament, but their run was cut short by former national champions Messiah.  The team will be looking to defend their AMCC title in 2007 and build on their post-season experience at the national level.

AMCC playes begins on Saturday, September 22, with Behrend facing off against Mt. Aloysius.  The conference Championship will be on Saturday, November 3.  The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
