Women's Soccer Battles Through Heartbreaking Loss 2-1

The Behrend Women's Soccer team hosted the Grove City Wolverines Thursday, September 20 at the Behrend Fields.

The blue and white came out playing tough and hard, controlling most of the first half.  The women had a number of opportunities in start, out shooting the Wolverines 16 to 6 in the half, but could not find the back of the net.

Then four minutes into the second half forward Emily Ostlund (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) scored an unassisted goal to give Grove City a 1-0 lead.  Twelve minutes later midfielder Jaclyn Stottlemyer (Charleroi/Charleroi) juked two defenders and shot one right past the keeper to even the score at 1-1 a piece.

Late in the second half, a Behrend foul gave the Wolverines a free kick 10 yards outside the box.  As the kick was taken, bodies scrambled and fought to get to the ball, but in the end forward Michelle Peck (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) found ball first, scoring the game winning goal for Grove City.

The Behrend Lions out shot Grove City 24 to 10.  Goal keeper Kayla Frost (Venetia/Peters Township) had four saves for the day.

AMCC conferenc play begins for the blue and white (1-5-2) on Saturday, September 22, when they travel to Mt. Aloysius to take on the Mounties at 1:00 p.m.
