Behrend to Host TOPSoccer Program This Spring

After a successful outcome last spring, Penn State Behrend is hosting the TOPSoccer program once again.  TOPSoccer is The Outreach Program for Soccer.  It is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers.

With 17 participants currently enrolled, the program continues to increase in size and support.  There continues to be a great amount of support from the community, university, and various agencies. The Sertoma Club, an organization created for the service to mankind, has generously given the TOPSoccer program financial support this year.

"We have a very supportive group of soccer players who are committed to providing an outstanding soccer experience for these children," says Director of Soccer at Penn State Behrend, Dan Perritano.  Several members from the Behrend men and women's soccer teams enjoy volunteering their time every week to work with the children.  "It is a very rewarding experience to be able to teach soccer, build relationships, and see the children smiling and having a good time," says volunteer and senior soccer player Laura Furko.

TOPSoccer begins Wednesday, March 13 at 6:00 PM and continues every Wednesday at the same time until May 1.  The six-week camp will take place in the Junker Center on the campus of Penn State Behrend.  An individual can still sign up for this program by calling Dan Perritano at (814) 898-6296.
