Seminars and Tutorials The Computer Center offers hands-on computer seminars for faculty, staff, and students. Plus, there are a variety of other ways to learn new software. Refer to the items below for more information. Student TrainingComputer training is provided either through in-class sessions or by one-on-one tutoring. If requested by an instructor, the Computer Center can provide group training to a class on general computing topics. These topics include: Microsoft Office, FrontPage, WebMail, and the PSU Portal. To request training for a class, faculty need to complete the Computer Resource Requirement Form or contact the Web developer/information specialist at least 3 weeks in advance to arrange for such training. The Learning Resource Center provides one-on-one tutoring to students who need assistance with Microsoft Office, FrontPage, and WebMail. Students can take advantage of this tutoring by contacting the Learning Resource Center to arrange for an appointment. Keep in mind that both the Learning Resource Center and the Computer Center rely on students to provide the tutoring and training. As a result, the tutoring and group training depend upon the availability and knowledge of the students. Faculty and staff seminars are held each semester or upon request. In addition, one-on-one training may also be scheduled. Seminars or individualized instruction varies according to need and may include topics such as Eudora (email), WebMail (Web-based email), FrontPage (Web page editor), Listserv (email discussion group/announcement list), Microsoft Office, and other software. For more information about seminars or one-on-one training, contact the multimedia and computer support specialist. Both Penn State Behrend and Penn State University offer tutorials to faculty, staff, and students. Penn State Behrend has tutorials for Microsoft Office. These can only be accessed from the computer labs. Penn State University has over 1,100 tutorials that are available via a Web browser. There are tutorials for general computer topics (such as Microsoft Office) as well as tutorials for information technology (such as computer networking, Unix, etc.). These Web-based tutorials are available to Penn State faculty, staff, and students and require that the user have an Access userid and password. (Also, in order for these tutorials to work, you must allow the browser to accept "cookies" and the browser must be enabled to run Java programs.) To use these tutorials, go to: https://wbt.psu.edu/.
